Meet The Team
The Education Foundation for the Colorado National Guard is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. It was established in 2004 to provide educational tuition assistance for members of the Colorado National Guard and their families; in response to the increasing financial needs, resulting from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Due to frequent and extended deployments, many of the soldiers and airmen had to leave their full-time civilian employment. This often resulted in significant income reductions, consequently burdening their families with additional challenges and expenses. The grants of the Education Foundation ameliorate the struggles of those who have sacrificed so much, in selfless service to our nation. The money allows both members and their families to continue the pursuit of both college degrees and trade school programs.
Funding for the grants is derived from generous donations from charitable foundations, corporations, and individuals.
At its first award ceremony in June of 2004, the Education Foundation awarded 3 grants of $500 each. To date, the Foundation has given close to 500 grants, totaling over $680,000. With a substantial portion of the funds going to the children and spouses of Colorado’s National Guard members. Most awards are used toward undergraduate degrees. However, many EFCONG grant recipients include students in trade school programs, as well as those pursuing Master’s and Doctorate degrees. Although the vast majority of funding ends up in Colorado schools, school location is not a factor in the selection process. Criteria for an award focuses on financial need, community involvement, and academic achievement.
